Being a health and fitness enthusiast, I have been looking at personal training courses for some time. The problem is, I’ve never found one with enough flexibility to fit my lifestyle. So, when I found a company called Origym, they immediately sparked my interest…

Some time ago I considered personal training as a full-time career. However, at the time I couldn’t find a training course that fitted my lifestyle. I needed flexibility and struggled to find this type of course. With work commitments, the cost of living and time to study clashing, none of the options available seemed right. I took my Crossfit Level 1 course but this was a weekend long practical/exam course. All studying was done at your leisure beforehand. Unfortunately I never got the chance to build on this with a recognised PT course. So, when I began to look into Origym in more detail I was pleasantly surprised.
My first point of call was to check that the Origym course was recognised by all of the industry standards. This is important to me as I feel if something takes up a large amount of your time and effort it should be worth it. The good news is that all of Origym’s courses are all REPs recognised (Register of Exercise Professionals). Essentially they’re stamped with the gold standard for industry approval. They are also endorsed by Skills Active who are the Sector Skills Council for Health and Fitness in England and Wales. Not only this, but I discovered the opportunity for further development. Your personal training diploma, level 1, 2, 3, 4 and CPD courses are all available through Origym after completion of your personal training certificate.
I also wanted to ensure the company I chose to go with actually delivered results!
I mean that’s the whole point of this, I don’t just want a piece of paper that has met industry requirements. For me, in order to be comfortable in giving advice to others, I want to be safe in the knowledge that the content I have learnt is worthwhile and accurate. So, I spent some time looking around their website – which is also set up very professionally and easy to use. I found a load of positive testimonials from people around the country who had enrolled with Origym.
After this I visited Trustpilot to double-check what I had found on their website. Reassuringly, 97% of reviews are excellent and he testimonials all speak about how in-depth and professional the courses are. Following this I learned that their partners are some of the most recognised in the fitness industry. You may recognise Pure Gym, David Lloyd, Nuffield Health and Virgin Active. Their aim is to provide support beyond your learning with interviews at recognised companies after you achieve your qualifications. This is reassuring, if the company didn’t believe in its own methods and the results they can get their students then they couldn’t make this claim.
The last point of call before I made my choice was the flexibility aspect…
This comes in more ways than one. Firstly, I needed the flexibility of learning as juggling a full-time job, personal commitments and studying is a difficult task! Being confined to a rigid way of learning and classroom based teaching just doesn’t work for me. That was the main problem I had a few years back when looking into personal training courses. At Origym they offer a number of different ways to learn. Most importantly for me, they offer E-Learning and online modules.
However, 1-2-1 personal mentor support is also offered to each individual as you complete your course. If you have any questions that you can’t answer for yourself then they are there to provide support. This allows my progress to be made at my pace in my own home. When it comes to practical exams, there are a number of nationwide centres that Origym have to offer. Therefore, even when having to take practical assessments, I don’t have to travel that far.
Secondly, I wanted to understand the payment side of things, after all, this is very important. Origym offer a number of flexible payment options which really helps! We aren’t all in a position to pay upfront or have no additional expenses whilst learning. Therefore, I was impressed with the multiple options offered by Origym. One of these options is a 0% finance option, to me this is a fantastic way to learn whilst paying manageable contributions to your course.
There we have it so far! As I progress through my course I will be updating this post…
I want to review the quality of courses assignments, whether it offers the depth of learning and ease of use it claims to. The main areas I will be focusing on how the course is taught, the online learning resources and the ease of assignment completion. This will include how accessible the practical assessment days are and the support portal offered by Origym.
