Red Berry Club

I was recently lucky enough to receive supplement a bundle from Prana Protein. Prana Protein offer a range of wholefood bars, shakes and superfood supplements. They aim to use pure and simple ingredients to offer natural, healthier nutritional supplements than we would normally buy. Here’s how I used the products and what I thought…

What’s different about Prana Protein

prana proteinSo, Prana source their ingredients with the aim of supporting your body to refuel, recover and restore. They include superfoods rich in phytonutrients in their products to do this. In plants, phytonutrients help protect from free radicals that can damage or attack them.

Similarly, when we exercise we put our bodies under stress which causes our bodies to release free radicals. Therefore, Prana look to use the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of superfoods in their range to combat this. Four of the superfoods used are, Goji berriesChia seedsMaca powder and Cocao beans.

Not only this, but on a much simpler level, the design of their products is (in my opinion) much better than most supplements out there. Products come in paper packaging rather than plastic packaging or tubs as is the norm. It gives a really organic feel to the products which is cool.

Hulk Pancakes

Okay, so it wouldn’t be a nutrition post from me if pancakes weren’t involved. If you’re a regular reader you’ll know just how much I love pancakes. As soon as I got the bundle I began thinking of the ways I could use them to cook and pancakes came to the top of the list. I went for green pancakes – yes green – hence Hulk pancakes so here’s how I made them and the products I used to do so…

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender (banana/flour first to stop a powder explosion inside the blender)
  2. Blend until mixture is smooth
  3. Heat a pan and melt a small amount of coconut oil
  4. Add a palm size amount of mixture and fry for 20-30 seconds either side until soft and fluffy
  5. Repeat until mixture is gone

prana proteinSo, the goal for me with healthy pancakes is to make something that actually resembles unhealthy pancakes!!! Not just dry, or sloppy, messes of mixture that I eat because they’re ‘healthy’. I didn’t quite know what to expect and the bright green mixture that was in the blender made me wonder if they’d be any good. Turns out, these really surprised me, the short answer is that they turned out really well Smiling Face With Open Mouth & Smiling Eyes on Apple iOS 10.2!

The pancakes were softer and fluffier than normal (almost like they had baking powder in) which was a bonus. In addition, there was no ‘earthy’ taste to them like I expected. If anything they were more on the sweeter side. Finally, eating these knowing that they had only healthy ingredients in them made it all the more satisfying. Quick, easy, novel and fun to make pancakes that taste nice too – especially with the almond butter topping!

Healthy Overnight Oats

This one is one of my favourites and is so easy to make!

  • 100g Coconut yogurt
  • 100g rolled oats
  • 300ml almond milk (I needed extra calories so used whole milk)
  • 50g Berry granola
  • 1 Sachet Prana Protein Powder (flavour of your choice)

Optional Toppings:

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • Drizzle of 100% maple syrup
  • 1 Prana Protein Bar broken up (flavour of your choice)

  1. Mix 100g oats, 300ml whole milk and @prana.protein vanilla protein powder – leave overnight.
  2. In the morning top with 50g of red berry granola and 100g of coconut yoghurt – chill for 10-15 minutes
  3. Sprinkle on some chai seeds, @prana.protein bar and 100% maple syrup for good measure ?

So, there you go, a couple of the recipes I have made so far using Prana protein products. I really like the values the guys at Prana follow and it adds a bit more to their product. If you want to tr any just click here. As always, let me know what you think in the comments below…
